Get inspired by my client's Ted Talk!

The best part of my job is getting to see my clients flourish. And boy, do they flourish... People often sign up to coaching because I inspire them, but by the end of a coaching journey, they are the ones inspiring me! I get to work with some of the smartest, most driven, interesting, talented, and promising individuals on this planet. And today, I want to introduce you to one of them... Meet Dr. Tareq Layka, a dentist, activist, peacebuilder, and lecturer in Global Health, Political Science, and Peacebuilding & Conflict Resolution from Syria.

Tareq's work and research focus on the intersection of health, peacebuilding, politics, and their security implications, especially in complex contexts. He worked extensively with organisations both on the ground in Syria and abroad and regularly lectures to audiences around the world. Currently, he is completing an MSc in Global Health, Social Justice and Public Policy at King's College London.

We started working together exactly a year ago: we began with some private sessions, and then he joined the 10-month-long Gifted Go-Getter Mastermind in September 2023. This is my program for gifted adults who want to focus on taking action on their dreams, get out there, and create output to share their talents with the world.

Tareq has faced a lot of hardships. Being from Syria, the war affected his development considerably, from being exposed to violence and loss, to having to deal with frequent power outages. When I started coaching Tareq, he was still in Syria, working hard to find ways to leave the country in search of better opportunities.

Beyond finding opportunities, however, Tareq is an expert at creating opportunities himself. This man has taken over 80 online courses (!) to learn as much as he could about his many interests. He used crowdfunding to afford his education, and today, he is studying for an MSc at King's College London.

Tareq's TED Talk

What's more: he recently gave a TED Talk! In his talk, he describes how he faced adversity, and how he built not 'one door, but many doors', in order to maximize his chances for success. Watch his inspiring, and very moving, talk here:

Tareq is the embodiment of the 'Gifted Go-Getter' mindset. It's been a joy to work with him, and witness his achievements this past year. I feel privileged that I get to coach people like Tareq, and I have no doubt that he will accomplish many more great things, making the world a better place because of it. As always, I will be ready to celebrate him, cheer him on, and support him in every way that I can as a coach. Well done, Tareq!
